In the cycle of collages presented here, Melanka Herbut reflects on the coming into being and the disappearing of human beings. The creatureness in its growing, blossoming and fading, mankind being exposed to the elements, is taken up in a direct way of speaking. The picture books made of metal on the subject of „Istria“ are some unconventional examples of the painter's colourful pleasure of narrating.
„...asks herself a painter worried over the global indifference towards a man and his destiny, nature and its endangered state, in this so-called modern era... The author „creates“ genesis of the birth of men, of so precious individuals, each with his or her own little mission, all in a biblical manner – from the soil, from nothing. She manifests it through a technologic icon of our age – the empty white tube. She multiplies it through family... This pastitioned, conceptually firmly set theme, whose thesis is visually clearly stated, is altogether clearly laid out, unostentatiously warning towards the obvious, global split...“
