The pictures of the Way of the Cross are components of a bridge being built to overcome barriers – barriers between „those who see“ and „those who see differently“. Melanka Herbut added this supplement intentionally to her creation of the Way of the Cross. It connects the artist's matter to the human matter – the real effort made to expose oneself to the tension – the tension of being limited. The fine arts are limited when they are presented to people who are reduced in their optical perceptive faculty. The pictures of the Way of the Cross that can be viewed and touched are the painter's effort to build bridges over this situation of restriction. Melanka Herbut is only able to start building these bridges from her side, hoping to succeed at last.
„The Way of the Cross for those who see and those who see differently“ has been planned as a cycle of pictures connected to each other. During a wandering exhibition there have already been numerous and much-frequented presentations in Germany and abroad. You can book that exhibition. If you are interested, please contact the MelankART office and read our information sheet about the exhibition.
